Job description:
This position is responsible for assisting in the hands-on management and growing of our propagation department. They will be required to train under the Propagation Manager and be able to take on the duties of the Propagation Manager for short periods of time. The job duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Constant care and monitoring of growing facilities for optimum crop quality, climate, and placement, escalate concerns to Propagation Manager
- Assist Propagation Manager in all aspects of propagation/growing, including cutting and sticking, seeding, divisions, watering, fertilizing, finishing crops, assembly, scouting and testing.
- Help develop/document high quality standards for consistently propagating and growing crops, this includes developing best practices and crop recipes that will be incorporated into the production planning module.
- Maintain good growing practices to meet required ready dates
- Monitor, improve and report daily productivity, quality and safety metrics
- Conduct trials/experiments to evaluate possible improvements to the crops
- Perform pH and EC tests, track soil, water, disease tests as needed
- Monitor/control computerized greenhouse environments
- Help Identify crop problems and develop corrective and preventative actions
- Identify/track insects
- Oversee the weekly propagation schedule and manage cutting team of up to 10 people
- Oversee the weekly grading and assembly schedule and manage team of up to 7 people
- Ensure proper paperwork protocols to maintain inventory accuracy
- Oversee proper inventory best practices for the propagation facility
- Participate in daily and weekly meetings
- Lead/Supervise 12-17 employees in the Propagation Department
Qualified candidates must be open to learning, process driven, self-motivated, and work as part of a team. Strong management, organizational, and communication skills are also vital to the success of this role. They must be able to work with co-workers in a courteous and professional manner at all times
Candidate must have the following:
- Degree in Horticulture or related field and/or 2 years of work experience in propagation
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. multiple times per day and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions that include heat, rain and cold
